Manager Laitinen told the June 5 Chippewa County Road Commission that the Chub Creek Bridge project is moving forward and staff believe a resolution has been reached. Paving on Mackinac Trail has started, and the 16 Mile Bridge replacement is scheduled to begin next week, he said.
Laitinen also reported that staff are working with EUP Title on a transfer/sale of a property in Whitefish Township but have encountered a deed-reversion clause that requires a state-level release. He said identifying the appropriate person at the State to grant the release has been challenging.
The manager announced the hire of a new mechanic, Brandon Bellenger, who is to start July 7 after moving to the Soo; he previously worked for Alger County Road Commission. Equipment updates included delivery of emulsion and deployment of AMZ/Durapatcher units in the field. Foremen reported other routine maintenance activities, including bridge brush-clearing and ditch work.
No formal votes or policy actions were recorded on the property-transfer item during the meeting; staff reported continuing outreach to the State.
