Chippewa County Road Commissioners approve payroll, health-plan cost-share and land withdrawal application

The Chippewa County Road Commissioners on June 19 approved routine payroll and voucher payments and took several administrative actions including authorizing a health-plan renewal with employee cost shares and signing an application to withdraw a parcel from the Commercial Forest Reserve.
In a set of motions early in the meeting, the board approved payroll of $184,242.44 and vouchers totaling $279,588.51 to be paid from the County Road Fund. Commissioner Moser moved the payroll-and-vouchers motion and Commissioner Sprague seconded; the motion was recorded as carried. The board also approved the June 5, 2025 meeting minutes (motion by Moser, seconded by Sprague).
Manager Mark Laitinen reviewed a proposed renewal with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for the plan year beginning Aug. 1, 2025 and a tentative cost-share arrangement with the union. The board authorized Manager Laitinen and Office Manager Bobbie Livermore to proceed with the renewal providing the proposed per-pay-period employee contributions of $25 for the Base Plan, $68 for Buy Up Option 1 and $187 for Buy Up Option 2 (motion by Commissioner Sprague, seconded by Commissioner Moser). The motion carried.
On association governance, Manager Laitinen recommended casting three available votes for incumbents on the MCRCSIP board; Commissioner Moser moved to cast the votes and Commissioner Sprague seconded. The motion carried.
The board also voted to support a Pickford Township Board resolution requesting a speed study for Main Street after Laitinen reviewed the history of the speed setting and a Michigan State Police order that had removed posted signage (motion by Commissioner Moser, seconded by Commissioner Sprague). The motion carried.
A substantive administrative action came when Manager Laitinen explained a missing document related to the county's purchase of a parcel in Paradise and the deadline to file an application to withdraw that parcel from the Commercial Forest Reserve. Commissioner Moser moved and Commissioner Sprague seconded authorization for the board to sign and submit the application; the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
