Road commission approves payroll, large vouchers and equipment purchases; manager reports staffing change and schedule

The commission approved payroll totaling $186,881.24 and vouchers of $957,120.24 from the County Road Fund, subject to audit. Office Manager Bobbie Livermore told the board major accounts-payable items included the MERS pension contribution and purchases of a loader, grader and lowboy trailer.
Livermore also reported an audit finding: a 2024 performance-bond invoice for Asphlund Trees had been entered and created both a receivable and a liability. She recommended using the accounting 'write-off' function in a subsequent year (a balance-sheet-only correction) after confirming Asphlund does not plan 2025 work that would require the bond. On the subject of military leave and MERS service credit, Livermore recommended continuing the existing practice (report historic wage amounts, pay the employee's 2% contribution on the employee's behalf, and recoup those contributions when the employee returns), so no action was required.
On procurement, Manager Laitinen reviewed drag-blade bids and recommended purchasing a 3/4 x 8 x 72 blade as the commission's major blade buy; Truck and Trailer was the low bidder for that specification and St. Regis was the only vendor offering an integrated wing blade-and-shoe combination. The board approved awarding the major blade purchase to Truck and Trailer and accepted St. Regis' bid for the integrated wing blade with shoes.
Manager Laitinen reported Mechanic Eavou had tendered his resignation and would leave the following Monday to take a position with Fabick Cat. Laitinen also said he expects to lift remaining seasonal road restrictions on Monday, May 12, 2025. Engineer John Boileau added project scheduling notes: 16 Mile Road work is scheduled to begin June 11 and Mackinac Trail work should start around mid-June; he also noted the north abutment pour at Chub Creek as a milestone.
The meeting adjourned at 8:36 A.M.; Chairman Jeremy Gagnon closed with a wish that everyone 'stay safe.'
