Harrison County commissioners adopt two ordinances, update comprehensive plan and approve routine business

Harrison County commissioners met June 2 in Corydon and approved a package of routine business while adopting two ordinances and a comprehensive-plan update.
The board voted 3-0 to adopt Ordinance 2025-06, a solar power ordinance, and Ordinance 2025-05, an amendment to the county's animal control ordinance. Commissioners also approved Resolution 2025-05 updating the county comprehensive plan by a 3-0 vote.
Beyond those formal adoptions, the commission approved regular claims and payroll, authorized Commissioner Nelson Stepro to sign a letter supporting preservation of the Alice Dean shipwreck, ratified a contract with Crossroad's GIS, and ratified a certified letter to Rumpke ending trash collection services, all by unanimous votes. The board also authorized signing a contract with Volta for E911 dispatch after the county council approved funding.
Other formal actions recorded during the meeting included approval of a 2026–2029 bridge inspection contract with SJCA, Inc., approval of a task order with United Consulting for Bridge #37 and Bridge #75 rehabilitation, forwarding multiple funding requests to the county council (including parks and highway equipment requests), approval of a $15,000 annual surety bond for the highway superintendent, and forwarding a $75,790 request to replace the justice center water softener. Several additional appropriation and procurement items were forwarded to the county council for consideration.
The meeting ended with a motion to adjourn at 7:53 p.m., carried 3-0.
