Commissioners forward $96,033.72 opioid-restricted appropriation request for youth support, scholarships and EMS gear

Jeremy McKim, Harrison County coroner and EMS director, appeared before the commissioners on May 5 representing the county JRAC board and asked the board to forward an additional-appropriation request totaling $96,033.72 from the Opioid Restricted fund.
McKim said the request is allocated among three recipients: $68,000 for a Family Support Specialist position at the Harrison County Youth Advocacy Center; $4,800 to fund Giving Recovery A Chance scholarships that will cover entrance fees for 10 men entering the recovery program; and $23,233.72 for Harrison County EMS to purchase 12 OneScope Pro video laryngoscopes.
Commissioner Annissa Kellum moved to forward the appropriation request to the county council; Commissioner Brad Wiseman seconded, and the motion carried 3-0. The commissioners recorded no objections in the minutes.
The request was placed as a referral to the county council; funding must be appropriated by the council before the awards, hires or equipment purchases can proceed.
