Benzie County adopts 2025–26 budget, approves position roster with conditional jail post

The Benzie County Board of Commissioners adopted the 2025–2026 General Appropriations Act and approved the county’s fiscal year 2025–2026 budget during its Sept. 9 regular session. The vote was unanimous after a motion by Commissioner Tim Markey and a second by Commissioner David Davis.
The board also adopted the presented position roster. The budget document includes a position titled Jail Administrator; the board specified that this position “will only be filled upon concurrence between the Sheriff’s Office and Administration.” The board additionally authorized the chair to sign the appropriation act and the L‑4029 form required for budget certification.
Commissioners then approved a separate motion authorizing the county administrator and county treasurer to make interfund transfers to balance the 2024–2025 budgets for all funds. That motion passed on a unanimous roll call as well.
The meeting record shows the board approved routine financial items earlier in the session, including payment of bills totaling $628,428.76 covering Aug. 23–Sept. 5, 2025, and reauthorized line‑item transfers as needed to close fiscal 2024–2025 accounts. Officials did not specify additional funding sources beyond those noted in the budget materials presented to the board.
