BEULAH, Mich. — The Benzie County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting on Oct. 24, 2025, to interview applicants for the County Commissioner District VI seat and agreed to defer making an appointment until the board’s regular meeting on Oct. 28, 2025.
Chairman Art Jeannot called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m. in the Frank Walterhouse Board of Commissioners Room. Commissioners Art Jeannot, Tim Markey, Rhonda Nye, Bob Roelofs and Gary Sauer were present; Christina Trigg was noted absent at roll call but arrived before interviews resumed.
The board approved the meeting agenda at the start of the session on a motion by Commissioner Gary Sauer, seconded by Commissioner Tim Markey; the motion carried with all present voting aye. Commissioner Rhonda Nye gave the invocation and the assembly recited the pledge of allegiance.
Jeannot outlined the interview procedure, saying each candidate would be given roughly 20 minutes unless more time was needed and that the board would decide whether to appoint a candidate that day or postpone the decision to the Oct. 28 meeting.
The board interviewed multiple applicants for the District VI vacancy: Rose Roelofs, Len Mathieu, Marie Wohadlo, Mari Dew and Monika Fiebing (who participated remotely via Zoom). The meeting record lists scheduled break and reconvene times during the interview sequence; the interviews concluded and were officially closed at 1:13 p.m. No members of the public spoke during the public-comment periods recorded in the meeting minutes.
After closing the interviews the board reached a consensus to make the appointment at its Oct. 28 Board of Commissioners meeting rather than at the special session. The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 p.m. on a motion by Commissioner Tim Markey, seconded by Commissioner Bob Roelofs; Commissioners Jeannot, Markey, Nye, Roelofs, Sauer and Trigg voted aye.
The appointment decision is scheduled for the board’s Oct. 28 meeting; no appointment was made at the Oct. 24 special meeting.
