Commissioner John Kozlowski raised questions about homeless campers at the Alpena County fairgrounds and asked Fairgrounds Manager Holly Akins for an update. Holly said she has been coordinating with a Salvation Army staff member and has provided campground rules to the campers.
Administrator Jesse Osmer told the committee he would draft a document requiring organizations that support the campers to pay a security deposit to cover potential damages and clean-up; Osmer said the topic will be brought to the June Intergovernmental Council meeting for further discussion. Committee members noted that last year there were no problems and that staff received compliments on the cleanliness of the fairgrounds compared with prior years.
Commissioner Kozlowski asked the Fairgrounds Manager to include current updates in her monthly reports. The committee did not adopt a formal policy at the meeting; the matter will be considered at the intergovernmental meeting in June.
