Maintenance superintendent details courthouse, parks and fairgrounds repairs and vendor changes

Maintenance Superintendent Nick Akins told the Facilities, Capital & Strategic Planning Committee on Wednesday that most courthouse and annex capital-improvement work — including repairs to ceiling cracks — will be handled in-house and that a welder will be needed to repair a grate above the County Administrator’s office window.

Nick Akins reported the first round of lawn cutting is complete, an automated external defibrillator (AED) for parks has been ordered and the county pool was shut down this week for maintenance. Staff plan to inspect and repair the parks trailer next week. For the high-school tennis courts, Akins said new gate hardware and concrete patching are needed and that he will collect quotes for resurfacing.

Vent-cleaning work at the courthouse is awaiting estimates; one contractor provided an estimate of roughly $10,000 to $12,000. The county is switching chemical suppliers for cleaning stations from State Chem to local vendor Eagle Supply to allow single-bottle purchases and reduce costs. At Long Lake Park staff are waiting on a mixing valve for the restroom.

Administrator Jesse Osmer reported two tree-cutting quotes, one for $4,500 and an adjusted quote of $2,300 after scope clarification; the lower-priced contractor was notified to begin the work. Commissioner Brenda Fournier requested a handicap bar in the women’s courthouse bathroom and Akins confirmed he will install one. Chair Travis Konarzewski asked staff to circulate the Plante Moran capital-improvement list to the committee for discussion at the next meeting.

The committee received these updates as informational items and directed staff to obtain additional estimates where noted.
