Barry County commissioners approve $4.59 million in payments and hear administrative updates on budget, opioid funds and short-term rental guidance

The Barry County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 12 approved prepaid invoices totaling $4,526,683.55, claims of $65,555.25 and commissioners’ mileage reimbursements of $666.40 during routine business.
County Administrator Eric Zuzga told the board that final recommendations for the 2026 budget would be completed that day or the next and then distributed to the board. Zuzga also said additional opioid settlement funds are expected to arrive, and he commended Buildings and Grounds Department Head Jeff Hall and Maintenance Worker Rick Bump for their work maintaining county property.
Zuzga said the county will provide townships with a model short-term rental ordinance for local consideration; the county’s role will be educational only and townships will retain enforcement authority. He also reported that labor negotiations are underway, with two of five associations actively engaged in talks.
All financial votes were recorded as five ayes and three absences; the minutes do not show any dissenting votes on these items.
