The Barry County Board of Commissioners on July 22 approved a consent package that included renewal of the county's liability, vehicle physical damage, property and crime insurance for $510,963 and authorization for the member representative to sign the agreement.
The board voted to grant a conservation easement on the Baily Nature Preserve to the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy and authorized the chair to sign the easement agreement. As part of the consent items the board appointed Jerry Wilson to the Barry County Community Mental Health Authority Board for a three-year term beginning April 1, 2025, and appointed Dr. Nicholas Kostelecky as a deputy medical examiner for Barry County, effective immediately.
Commissioner Bob Teunessen moved to approve the listed consent items; Commissioner Jon Smelker seconded. The roll-call vote recorded ayes from Commissioners Marsha Bassett, Mike Callton, Bruce Campbell, David Hatfield, David Jackson, Jon Smelker and Bob Teunessen; Commissioner Catherine Getty was absent. The motion carried.
The consent package also authorized the disposal of multiple county vehicles by private sale or scrap and designated Eric Zuzga as Officer Delegate and Marsha Bassett as Officer Alternate to attend the 2025 Municipal Employees Retirement System annual meeting Oct. 16'17 in Acme, Michigan; the board approved paying expenses for the delegates.
The meeting minutes show the actions were taken as routine business under the consent agenda and did not include separate debate on the individual items. The board recessed briefly later in the meeting and reconvened at 10:11 a.m.
