Committee hears ice-storm damage update, FEMA outreach underway

The Alpena County Facilities, Capital & Strategic Planning Committee heard updates April 30 on damage from a recent ice storm and on efforts to recover costs. Emergency Management and E911 Director Kim Elkie told the committee that county staff are working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to document damage and seek reimbursement for eligible expenses.
Plaza Pool Director Kim Bolanowski reported that two panels from the pool scoreboard were damaged by an electrical surge related to the storm; she said repair costs are still pending. County Administrator Jesse Osmer told the panel there is an appropriation bill moving through the state legislature that could assist the county in recouping some of the expenses tied to the storm response.
The updates provided situational awareness for committee members and underscored the need for a county-wide accounting of storm impacts and associated costs. The committee did not take formal fiscal action on storm recovery during the meeting.
