County wins $1 million paving grant; bridge projects, ADA plan approved

Dubois County was awarded $1,000,000 in Community Crossing Matching Grant funds for paving work on three roads, approved minor contract change orders, opened Bridge 21, postponed Bridge 116 replacement, and approved an ADA Transition Plan agreement not to exceed $50,000.
Highway Engineer Levi Leffert reported the county received $1,000,000 in Community Crossing Matching Grant (CCMG) funds to cover 80% of paving costs for Club Road, St. Anthony Road North and 550W; the work is scheduled between June and October 2026.
Leffert also presented two change orders with Calcar Paving (a net decrease of $602.24 and a net decrease of $11.80) which the board approved. He reported Bridge 21 (Little Creek on 200W) reopened to traffic Dec. 12, 2025, with shoulder stone to be added, and said Bridge 116 (CR 820E) will be postponed due to scheduling changes.
Leffert said the county submitted a federal Bridge Safety Improvement Project application to the Indiana Department of Transportation on Nov. 19, 2025; INDOT selected the project for presentation to its Scoring Committee and Leffert will present via Teams on Jan. 6, 2026. Leffert also presented an agreement with Lochmueller Group to prepare a new county ADA Transition Plan, not to exceed $50,000, noting the existing plan dates from 2012 and is out of compliance; the board approved the agreement by motion.
These actions together position the county to complete planned paving and safety improvements in 2026 and to update accessibility planning to remain eligible for federal and state funding.
