Grant County commissioners approve routine business, election equipment MOU and set omitted-property hearing

The Grant County Board of Commissioners handled routine administrative business at its Sept. 17 meeting, approving the meeting agenda and Sept. 3 minutes, accepting the treasurer’s report, and approving bills totaling $15,595.97.

Commissioner Al Roy Hochhalter moved to approve the bills; Commissioner Marty Meyer seconded. The roll call vote recorded Hochhalter, Meyer and Chairman Alton Zenker voting aye. The approved vendor list included CHS Inc., Burleigh-Morton Detention Center, Napa Auto Parts New Salem and others as presented in the county’s claims.

The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the North Dakota Secretary of State concerning responsible use and liability for state-provided election equipment used by the county. Auditor Sara Meier told the board the state provides necessary equipment to conduct secure elections and the MOU clarifies liability and responsible use.

Jackie Steinmetz will send valuation notices to rural property owners who did not qualify for an exemption in 2024 because an application was not received. The board set an omitted-property hearing for Nov. 5, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.; Auditor Meier will send hearing notices.

Planning and Zoning Administrator Jason Albert asked the board for a timeline on a subdivision submitted by Jason Schatz; the commissioners directed board members to submit questions for Albert to relay to the applicant. Sheriff Dillon provided his monthly update on calls and services and asked that complaints be directed to his office rather than discussed at the board meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 1:29 p.m.; the board listed upcoming meetings on Oct. 1 and Oct. 15, 2025.
