Grant County OKs variance for compound in state right-of-way, reschedules Schatz subdivision hearing

The Grant County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 15 approved a variance for an IIG compound that would encroach into the state right-of-way and rescheduled a public hearing for the Schatz 3rd Subdivision.
The variance would allow placement of a compound inside an area where the county's typical setback is 200 feet while the state right-of-way is 100 feet. Jason Albert, the county's Planning and Zoning Administrator, told the board the county Planning & Zoning Board had recommended approval. Commissioner Marty Meyer made the motion to approve the variance; Commissioner Al Roy Hochhalter seconded. The roll call vote was Hochhalter aye, Meyer aye and Chairman Alton Zenker aye.
Albert also asked to change the date and time of the scheduled plat hearing for the Schatz 3rd Subdivision, originally set for Nov. 19. The board rescinded the earlier motion and then voted to schedule the hearing for Dec. 3 at 11:00 a.m. Mountain Time (motion by Hochhalter, seconded by Zenker). The vote on the new hearing date was not unanimous: Hochhalter and Zenker voted aye and Meyer voted nay.
Shannon Wangsvick told the board there is no development on the south side near the Schatz division and that traffic counts conducted by the TCJJDA indicate traffic attributable to cabins and trailers in the Schatz Point area has decreased. The rescheduled hearing gives the public and staff additional time to review materials before the December hearing.
