The Grant County Board of Commissioners approved routine business and several staff directions at its July 2, 2025 meeting.
Commissioner Marty Meyer moved to approve the agenda and Commissioner Al Roy Hochhalter seconded; the Board voted unanimously to adopt the agenda. The Board then approved the June 18, 2025 meeting minutes by motion of Commissioner Hochhalter, seconded by Commissioner Meyer.
Commissioner Meyer moved to approve bills totaling $32,499.09; Commissioner Hochhalter seconded. The minutes list vendor payments, including a largest single invoice to White Cap for $18,996.36. The roll call vote was recorded as Meyer-aye, Hochhalter-aye, Zenker-aye, and the warrants were approved.
County Auditor Sara Meier reviewed the abatement process tied to the 2023 residential and commercial reassessment and said the Board would consider abatements only for errors in classification or cases of double taxation; that decision was based on the appraisal service and the director of tax equalization having reviewed the reassessment.
Director of Tax Equalization Jackie Steinmetz asked to advertise for a deputy position; the minutes state the Board did not approve filling the position, and no motion text or vote tally is recorded. Steinmetz also said she is continuing to receive applications for farm residence exemptions and will provide an update at the Board's July 16 meeting.
Jon Alt was asked to provide a road maintenance plan for the remainder of 2025 and a preliminary plan for 2026.
Chairman Alton Zenker adjourned the meeting at 11:52 a.m.; the Board noted its next scheduled meetings on July 16 and August 6.
The minutes do not include a financial breakdown beyond the bills list, cost estimates for the Cedar Creek Bridge replacement discussed elsewhere in the meeting, or the specific wording of any motion to deny the deputy position.
