Representatives from Elm Township (David Bauer, Perry Finck, Ron Haas and Josh Rivinius) and other townships including Howe (Jim Maier), Lark (Myron Miller), Leipzig (Merlin Leithold), Minnie (Kevin Roth), Pretty Rock (Keith Payne and Joe Rohr), Raleigh (Jerald Christensen), Rock (Saul Meier and Dennis Rivinius) and Winona (Owen and Melanie Wells) presented their 2025 Organized Township Road agreements. The board acted to compromise a 2024 bill for road maintenance on county shared roads; the motion passed on a unanimous roll call vote.
Jason Albert, Planning & Zoning/Flood Plain Administrator, presented preliminary haul-road maps supplied by Grid United for an upcoming transmission project and said final haul-road maps would be available closer to construction. During Elm Township's presentation Ron Haas expressed concern about the elevated speeds used by the sheriff’s department on county highways and asked that patrols slow down.
What happens next: township agreements will proceed through the usual county process; the board will follow up on the compromised 2024 shared-road bill. Grid United’s final haul-road maps and the conditional use permit hearing are scheduled to be discussed further at the April 16 hearing in the Grant County Courthouse courtroom.
