Grant County commissioners approve bills, appointments and major gravel-project payment

Grant County commissioners on Dec. 18, 2024 approved routine bills and a series of payments, confirmed several 2025 appointments and authorized a large progress payment tied to the county's 2024 gravel crushing project.
The board approved bills totaling $44,774.87 on a motion by Commissioner Marty Meyer; the roll-call vote was unanimous. The minutes list vendors and amounts, including Farstad Oil Inc. ($24,135.17), ND Association of Counties ($6,215.00), Sauber Engineering Inc. ($3,125.73) and others in the detailed vendor list.
On project payments, John Sauber of Sauber Engineering reported on the 2024 gravel crushing project. The board approved a third progress payment of $173,887.20 for the project by unanimous roll call.
The board authorized several contractor payments recorded in the minutes: a payment of $40,807.00 (first half of contract) to Leroy Kautz, a $50,000.00 first installment to Troy Miller, and a separate $20,000.00 first-half payment to Leroy Kautz listed later in the minutes. All motions for these payments passed unanimously.
The board also approved personnel items: a $45 payment to the POST Board for Deputy Palmer's license; an order for a 2025 Explorer for the Sheriff's Department from Nelson Auto; and hourly pay-rate changes effective Jan. 1, 2025—Steve Heinert at $23.32 per hour and William Mosbrucker at $24.32 per hour.
Appointments for 2025 were approved by roll-call votes: Jackie Steinmetz was appointed Director of Tax Equalization; Carey Rivinius was named County Coroner; and Grant L. Walker was appointed County State's Attorney. The board additionally appointed Merlin Leithold as Weed Board Officer and named Richard Woodbury and Commissioner Marty Meyer to the County Weed Board.
The minutes record unanimous votes on these items. The meeting adjourned at 12:20 p.m.; the board listed Jan. 8 and Jan. 22, 2025 as its next scheduled meetings and noted the courthouse will be closed on New Year's Day 2025.
