Morton County commissioners unanimously approve abatements, assessor contract and $1.8M road award

Morton County commissioners on Feb. 25, 2025, approved a slate of routine items including several property tax abatements, an intergovernmental contract with the City of Almont and concurrence with a state road contract. The meeting was called to order by Chair Nathan Boehm at 5:30 PM and adjourned at 5:47 PM.
The commission approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Commissioner Buckley, seconded by Commissioner Morrell. Commissioners then voted unanimously to approve the Feb. 13, 2025 minutes and to accept bills and payroll, following motions by Commissioners Zachmeier and Tokach.
Commissioners approved three sets of tax abatements. Commissioner Morrell moved and Commissioner Buckley seconded approval of abatements #6700–6714; Commissioner Buckley moved and Commissioner Morrell seconded approval of abatements #6696–6697; and Commissioner Tokach moved and Commissioner Morrell seconded approval of abatements #6698–6699. Each motion carried with all voting aye.
The commission approved a contract authorizing the City of Almont to perform duties of city assessor after a motion by Commissioner Zachmeier, seconded by Commissioner Tokach; the vote was unanimous.
Commissioner Morrell moved to concur with the North Dakota Department of Transportation award of the County Road 140 project in Hebron to Central Specialties for $1,806,129.51. The transcript records the motion and that "all voting aye, motion carried," but does not identify who seconded Morrell’s motion.
Auditor Dawn R. Rhone reported that the total of all county funds expended from Feb. 14, 2024, through Feb. 25, 2025, equals $464,161.10; the auditor’s office maintains a detailed list of expenditures available for public inspection during regular business hours.
The meeting adjourned at 5:47 PM on a motion by Commissioner Morrell and a second from Commissioner Zachmeier. The minutes were signed by Chairman Nathan Boehm and Auditor Dawn R. Rhone.
The session contained only routine business and no public testimony or contested votes were recorded.
