Sumter County Council voted unanimously Jan. 28 to approve Ordinance #24-1015, authorizing the sale of a 0.03-acre strip of county-owned land on U.S. Highway 378 to the South Carolina Department of Transportation for $15,200 to facilitate improvements at the Dabbs Crossroads intersection near the Dabbs Fire Station.
County Attorney Johnathan Bryan presented the ordinance and showed an image of the easternmost portion of the intersection, telling council the DOT had offered $15,200 for the 0.03-acre parcel and that the transfer would not interrupt the functionality of the Dabbs Fire Station. Chairman James T. McCain opened a public hearing; no members of the public spoke.
Councilman Charles T. Edens moved to approve the ordinance; Councilwoman Tasha Gardner-Greene seconded, and the motion was carried unanimously. The ordinance directs the county administrator to execute any deeds or legal instruments necessary, and states that the proceeds will be set aside for improvement of the Dabbs Fire Station.
Ordinance #24-1015 identifies the parcel (2024 Sumter County Tax Maps parcel 323-00-02-015) and contains standard implementation language authorizing the county administrator to complete required paperwork. The sale took effect upon adoption and the clerk was instructed to provide copies to the county attorney for processing.
