Sumter County Council on May 13 approved third reading of RZ‑25‑01, a rezoning request for a +/-1.86‑acre parcel at 3584 Peach Orchard Road (TMS# 136‑00‑02‑023), changing its designation from Agricultural Conservation (AC) to Neighborhood Commercial (NC).
Planning Director Helen Roodman presented the rezoning and told council there had been no changes since second reading. Vice Chairman James R. Byrd Jr. moved to approve the ordinance on third reading; the motion, seconded by Councilman Artie Baker, was adopted unanimously.
Why it matters: the rezoning allows commercial uses in place of the parcel’s prior agricultural conservation zoning, which could enable local retail or services consistent with Neighborhood Commercial zoning standards.
Next steps: implementation will follow normal permitting and land‑use processes for any future development under the new zoning designation.
