Consultant updates Ware County on Comprehensive Transportation Plan, cites congestion and truck traffic on two corridors

Chris Kingsbury of Atlas Technical Consulting gave the board a midproject update on Ware County's Comprehensive Transportation Plan on Jan. 6.
Kingsbury said Atlas has completed the plan layout and coordination tasks and collected relevant traffic and demographic data from CSX, the Georgia Department of Transportation and private traffic firms. The project is in its third phase, where consultants are developing recommendations and alternatives. Kingsbury said Atlas plans to return in the spring with draft recommendations and public input opportunities, and an interactive survey that will allow citizens to enter addresses linked to a map.
He described the county's current grading system (A-F), noting the county aims for A, B or C grades; several corridors received D and E grades but few Fs. Two major highways in Ware County were identified as congested during morning and afternoon peak hours, with heavier truck traffic than expected; the firm also reported that most of the serious accidents plotted in the county clustered on those corridors. Kingsbury said the next public engagement and draft report are expected around March.
The update did not include formal commission action; it set expectations for public outreach and a future draft report.
