Community Development Services Director Chad Branch told the Board of Commissioners on Feb. 4 that staff is proposing a text amendment to the unified development code to clean up the existing U.S. Highway 82 West corridor overlay and add a similar overlay for U.S. Highway 319 South.
Branch said the proposed Hwy 319 overlay "mirrors the Hwy 82 overlay" and would extend from the Tifton city limits to Omega city limits and on to the county line, reaching 1,000 feet on each side from the centerline of the highway. The Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the resolution.
Chairman Tony McBrayer questioned the length of the proposed overlay and said he had received concerns from the mayor of Omega; County Manager Jim Carter said he would call Mayor Robinson to discuss those concerns before the item goes to the Feb. 10 agenda. The work session record does not show formal Board action on the amendment; the item was set for the regular agenda so the Board can consider final action after any follow‑up.
