Tift County commissioners approve performance-review request and ratify statewide floating homestead exemption

The Tift County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved two resolutions during a called session on Feb. 18, 2025.
County Manager Jim Carter read Resolution No. 2025-07, a formal request for a performance review of county management. Carter told the board the Georgia Department of Revenue has 30 days to appoint the review committee and that conducting the review will cost the county approximately $8,000. Commissioner Stan Stalnaker moved to approve the resolution; Commissioner Greg Wood seconded. The motion carried 5-0, with Chairman Tony McBrayer and Commissioners Paul Webb, Greg Wood, Donnie Hester and Stan Stalnaker voting in favor.
The board then considered Resolution No. 2025-08 to ratify the state-wide floating homestead exemption. Carter stated that the county’s cities have opted in to the exemption while the school board has opted out. Commissioner Paul Webb moved to approve Resolution No. 2025-08; Commissioner Greg Wood seconded. The motion passed 5-0.
Later in the meeting, Commissioner Greg Wood moved that the board enter an executive session to discuss personnel matters. Commissioner Donnie Hester seconded and the motion passed 5-0. After the closed session, Commissioner Paul Webb moved to adjourn the executive session; Commissioner Donnie Hester seconded and the board voted 5-0 to return to public session.
With no additional business, Commissioner Greg Wood moved to adjourn the called session; Commissioner Paul Webb seconded and the motion carried 5-0. The minutes indicate the meeting was held in Room 207 of the Charles Kent Administration Building and are attested by Miriam Joudan.
