Tift County board to place $1.02M GDOT grant and multiple contracts on May 12 consent agenda

The Tift County Board of Commissioners on May 6 signaled it will place multiple staff-recommended maintenance contracts and a $1,017,243.26 Local Road Assistance grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation on the May 12 consent agenda.
IT Director Al Stephenson told commissioners the Eaton 93PM uninterruptible power supply at the Public Safety Building provides "online battery support for the 911 operations room as well as the data server room," keeping critical systems online until the backup generator takes over. Staff recommended a maintenance contract for the unit at $11,466, funded from the General Fund.
Public Works Director Jason Jordan described how the LRA grant would be applied. "The LRA Grant will provide $1,017,243.26 in additional funding from GDOT," Jordan said, and staff recommended using the funds on the county's two remaining bridge projects on Upper Ty Ty Road and Omega Eldorado Road. Jordan also reported a utility relocation need on Red Oak Road: Irwin EMC must move poles on the road's west side at an estimated cost of $160,000, with staff proposing funding from SPLOST VI and LMIG.
The board also indicated support for renewing a Turf Tank lease used for field marking at $16,000 per year plus a one-time upgrade fee of $1,700, a lease funded by the Tifton–Tift County Tourism Association. For grounds maintenance, staff said nine proposals were received and identified Service Living LLC as the lowest bidder at $116,893.15 for a one-year lawn-care contract.
County Manager Jim Carter asked the board to amend the FY25 schedule of fees to add rates for league and tournament play and facility rentals at the county's pickleball courts; the board directed staff to place that amendment on the consent agenda as well.
None of these items was acted on at the work session; commissioners repeatedly instructed staff to add them to the May 12 agenda for formal action.
