Residents urge road improvements and raise concerns about development moratorium and mill rate at Putnam County meeting

During public comment at the Oct. 21 Putnam County Board of Commissioners meeting, three residents raised local concerns and requests.
Bill Vargo distributed a handout and spoke about a recent District 3 report he received by email. Barb Vargo addressed the board about the upcoming development work session, the county's current development moratorium and the mill rate. Billy Webster distributed a handout, displayed a video and photographs of the intersection at Dennis Station Road and Twin Bridges Road, and urged commissioners to pursue intersection improvements.
Separately in the County Manager's report, Paul Van Haute said the City of Eatonton cannot accommodate the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition arranged through the Georgia Writers Museum; representatives will appear before the board on Nov. 7 to request use of the large Board of Commissioners public hearing room, which would be reserved in April and May 2026 if approved.
Handouts and visual materials referenced by the speakers were made part of the official minute book, according to the meeting record.
