Long County commissioners approve resolutions, appointments and procurement in Sept. 7 meeting

The board, chaired by Robert Parker, voted unanimously to approve the resolution authorizing local legislation to seek creation of a Long County Public Facilities Authority after a motion from Commissioner John Reddish and a second from Vice Chairman Gerald Blocker. The meeting minutes record the action as passed without opposition.
On a separate local-legislation item, Commissioner John Reddish moved to authorize local legislation to alter the term of office for the District 5 commissioner; Vice Chairman Gerald Blocker seconded. Commissioner Jeremy Hall recorded opposition to that motion; it nevertheless passed 4-1.
The board also handled routine personnel and procurement matters. Vice Chairman Gerald Blocker moved to appoint Jim Hicks to the county Planning and Zoning Board; Commissioner Jeremy Hall seconded. Chairman Robert Parker opposed the appointment and the motion passed 4-1.
Commissioner John Reddish moved to award the bid for an addition at Fire Station No. 5 to Pitts' Enterprises; Vice Chairman Gerald Blocker seconded. That motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Jeremy Hall moved to raise the price charged for county culverts and allow private contractors to install culverts provided they obtain a permit and the Code Enforcement Office conducts inspections; Commissioner John Reddish seconded. The measure passed unanimously.
The board voted to enter executive session to discuss real estate and later exited that session by unanimous vote. The meeting was adjourned after the executive session.
