Commissioners authorize property purchase for recreation expansion; alcohol referendum tabled; ordinance amendments read

The Long County Board of Commissioners approved a purchase of property on Elim Church Road and Martin Luther King Drive for future recreation expansion during its July 6, 2021, meeting. Commissioner John Reddish moved to make the purchase using SPLOST funds; Commissioner Florence Baggs seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting Chairman Robert Parker deferred action on an Alcohol Referendum Resolution until after an executive session. After returning from executive session, Commissioner Jeremy Hall moved to table the approval of the Alcohol Referendum Resolution; Vice Chairman Gerald Blocker seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
County Attorney James Smith read amendments to the county ordinance: one in reference to easements and one in reference to utility lines. Both were presented as first readings; the transcript records the readings but no board votes or detailed discussion on those ordinance amendments during the session.
Routine business also included approval of the agenda and June minutes and authorization for payment of bills, each passing by unanimous vote. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn.
