Long County sets county millage at rollback rate; Board affirms school board rate

Ludowici, Ga. — At a special meeting on Aug. 31, 2021, the Long County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to set the countywide millage at the rollback rate of 15.597 and to affirm the Long County Board of Education’s millage at its rollback rate of 14.387.
Vice Chairman Gerald Blocker moved to set the county millage using the rollback rate; Commissioner John Reddish seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Later in the same session, Commissioner Jeremy Hall moved to affirm the school board’s millage using its rollback rate, a motion seconded by Vice Chairman Blocker and also approved unanimously. Chairman Robert Parker presided; Commissioner Florence Baggs was absent and was recorded as not present for the votes.
The board took no other action on tax rates at the special meeting and adjourned following the motions.
Attendance at the Aug. 31 meeting included Chairman Robert Parker, Vice Chairman Gerald Blocker, Commissioners John Reddish and Jeremy Hall, County Administrator Russell Simmons, County Clerk Mary Ann Odum, Deputy County Clerk Brandi Smiley and Finance Director Bernice Johnson.
