Long County commissioners approve alcohol ordinance, subdivision plats, road acceptances and policies; appoint DFCS members

Between meetings on Dec. 6 and Dec. 20 the Long County Board of Commissioners approved the Lanier Road preliminary plat (331 lots), approved the Sassafrass Village Phase I final plat, accepted several roads for county maintenance, adopted a Social Media Policy, adopted an Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance on Dec. 20, and appointed two members to the DFCS board; a separate conditional-use request was denied.
The Long County Board of Commissioners completed routine and substantive business across meetings Dec. 6 and Dec. 20, 2022, approving multiple plats and policies and adopting an Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance at a Dec. 20 special meeting.
At the Dec. 6 regular meeting the commission approved its agenda, minutes and payment of bills. Commissioners unanimously approved the Preliminary Plat for the Lanier Road Subdivision; county minutes note the subdivision will include 331 lots and that the preliminary plat meets setback and requirement standards. The board also approved the Final Plat for Sassafrass Village Phase I and voted to accept Hillman Drive SE, Cutters Gap Phase I, Mancey Garrason Loop and Brookhaven Subdivision into county maintenance.
Commissioners also approved a Social Media Policy during the Dec. 6 meeting. Minutes record that motions to approve these items were made and seconded (movers and seconders are listed in the minutes) and that the motions passed unanimously.
On Dec. 20, during a public hearing and then a special meeting, the board conducted the second reading of a proposed Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance and answered a public question about license limits; Chairman Robert Parker said the county would not set a cap on the number of licenses. The commission met in a special session later that morning and voted to adopt the Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance (motion by Commissioner Hall, second by Commissioner Blocker); the minutes record a unanimous vote.
At the same Dec. 20 special meeting the board unanimously appointed Darrell Mosely and Jordan Strickland to the Long County Department of Family and Children Services Board.
The minutes do not list ordinance text or an effective date for the alcohol ordinance, nor do they record specific vote tallies by commissioner name; they state motions passed unanimously where noted. The minutes also show that a separate Conditional Use Request CU-022-002 (discussed at the Dec. 6 public hearing) was not approved by the commission.
