Long County commissioners approve road listings, plats and appointments; split votes on subdivision and a contract

At its June 7 regular meeting Long County commissioners approved LMIG road listings, appointed members to the Building Authority and approved Tatum Crossing Phase I final plat; the board split 3-2 on the Four and a Half preliminary plat. On June 21 the board approved an intergovernmental contract 3-1.
The Long County Board of Commissioners conducted routine county business at a June 7 meeting and took one contract vote at a June 21 special meeting.
At the June 7 meeting Chairman Robert D. Parker called the session to order at 9:05 a.m. After invocation by Probate Judge Teresa Odum, the board approved the agenda (motion by Commissioner Gerald Blocker, seconded by Commissioner John Reddish) with the addition of two roads in the Burnt Pines subdivision to the LMIG list. The board also approved May 2022 minutes and authorized payment of bills by unanimous votes.
By unanimous vote the board reappointed Stephanie Heath Johnson of Diversity Health Center to the Coastal Workforce Development Board as a business representative for a two-year term ending June 30, 2024. Commissioner John Reddish moved and the board later approved appointments to the Long County Building Authority naming Robert Parker, Gerald Blocker, Jason Smiley, Mike Jones and Kenny Nobles; that motion passed 4-1 with Commissioner Florence Baggs opposed.
The board approved a list of roads submitted for the Local Maintenance Improvement Grant and other paving projects (LMIG, one mile via TSPLOST and three miles via CDBG), including streets in Murray Crossing Phase III, Burnt Pines, Crawford and other subdivisions.
On land-use matters the board approved the Tatum Crossing Phase I final plat (motion passed 4-1 with Commissioner Jeremy Hall opposed). The Four and a Half Subdivision preliminary plat drew two separate votes: a motion by Commissioner Hall to deny the preliminary plat failed 2-3; a subsequent motion by Commissioner Blocker to approve the preliminary plat carried 3-2. Chairman Parker noted the rezoning was approved in November 2009 but said the development must meet modern standards.
The board entered and exited an executive session during the June 7 meeting; the minutes do not disclose the subject. At a June 21 special meeting the board voted 3-1 to approve an intergovernmental contract between the Long County Building and Public Facilities Authority and the Long County Board of Commissioners, with Commissioner Hall voting nay. The June 21 meeting adjourned after that vote.
