The Long County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 31 unanimously approved the county's fiscal year 2023–2024 millage rate at 14.738. Commissioner John Reddish moved to set the rate and Commissioner Jeremy Hall seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The vote followed routine agenda business at the board's regular meeting in Ludowici. The millage rate—expressed as the number of mills per $1,000 of assessed property value—will be applied in the coming fiscal year to calculate local property taxes for Long County.
The board adopted the agenda at the start of the meeting and approved the Oct. 3 minutes and payment of bills as consent items before taking up the millage rate. No public comment or objections to the rate were recorded in the meeting minutes.
The next procedural action on budgeting and tax matters will occur in subsequent board meetings or during the county's budget process as required by state law.
