Commissioners approve several reappointments and name Mary Young to Board of Elections

At the May 4 meeting commissioners submitted three names to the Hospital Authority to replace Steve Pair, reappointed Ron Paulk and Chris Calhoun to local authorities and commissions, and appointed Mary Young to the Ben Hill County Board of Elections and Registration after a roll-call vote (Mary Young 3, Joseph Manley 2).
Ben Hill County commissioners handled multiple appointment items and one contested board appointment at their May 4 meeting.
Commissioner John Mooney moved to submit Leslie Clemons, Brandi Petrie and Mollie Taylor to the Hospital Authority to replace Steve Pair; Vice-Chair Hope Harmon seconded and the motion passed with all commissioners voting in favor. Mooney also moved to reappoint Ron Paulk to the Fitzgerald BHC Development Authority; the motion was seconded by Vice-Chair Hope Harmon and passed unanimously. Commissioner Daniel Cowan moved to reappoint Chris Calhoun to the Fitzgerald BHC Planning & Zoning Commission; Vice-Chair Hope Harmon seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
On the Ben Hill County Board of Elections and Registration, the floor was opened to fill the seat vacated by Dr. Tom Green. Commissioner Bennie Calloway nominated Joseph Manley and Commissioner John Mooney nominated Mary Young. Vice-Chair Hope Harmon moved to close nominations; the motion passed. County Clerk Donna Prather recorded a roll-call vote: Hope Harmon and Bennie Calloway voted for Joseph Manley; Daniel Cowan, John Mooney and Chairman Steve Taylor voted for Mary Young. Mary Young was appointed to the Board of Elections and Registration.
Chairman Steve Taylor also asked commissioners to consider potential appointees to replace George Vereen and Farise Taylor on the Fitzgerald BHC Planning & Zoning Commission and noted the need to identify a replacement for Sherry Sue Davis on the Fitzgerald BHC Library Board. He further noted the Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities Board item after it was discovered that Dale Niday resides in Irwin County and is ineligible to serve on the county board.
