Ben Hill County Commission approves transit grant resolution, ratifies TIA projects and authorizes redistricting

At its Oct. 5 meeting the Ben Hill County Commission unanimously authorized an RMS application for a Section 5311 transit grant, ratified Evergreen TIA projects, appointed an ACCG voting delegate, accepted that the 2020 audit was submitted to DCA, and authorized the county manager to begin redistricting work.
The Ben Hill County Commission approved several routine but consequential administrative items during its Oct. 5 regular meeting.
County Manager Michael Dinnerman reported that the 2020 audit is complete and has been sent to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs; he said CPA Tony Eckler will present the audit at the next meeting. "2020 Audit is complete and has been sent to DCA," Dinnerman reported.
The commission adopted a resolution authorizing RMS to file a grant application for public transportation assistance under Title 49 U.S.C., Section 5311 with the Georgia Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of Transportation. Commissioner John Mooney moved to adopt the resolution and Vice-Chair Hope Harmon seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The board also ratified the Evergreen TIA Projects Resolution, and appointed Vice-Chair Hope Harmon as the county's 2021 Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) voting delegate. Commissioners recorded unanimous votes on both motions.
County Manager Dinnerman noted that, following the decennial U.S. Census, the county must review district boundaries. He asked for authority to begin the reapportionment process using a free state service; Commissioner John Mooney moved to authorize the county manager to start redistricting and the motion passed with all commissioners voting in favor.
The meeting included recognition of National 4-H Week by 4-H Agent Laura Lee Williams and students Landon Sinyard, Thomas Holt, Destini Kelly and Lee Jay, who described the "Find Your Spark" theme and 4-H opportunities for area youth. There were no public comments or legislative reports recorded, and the meeting moved into an executive session before adjournment.
