Ben Hill County adopts 15.840% final millage rate and approves Tax Levy Resolution

Ben Hill County Commissioners voted unanimously July 28 to adopt a final county millage rate of 15.840% and approve a Tax Levy Resolution after accepting the School Board’s proposed millage rate of 17.232%.

Commissioner Daniel Cowan moved that the commission “accept the School Board millage rate at 17.232%, to adopt the final millage rate for Ben Hill County at 15.840% for unincorporated and incorporated, approve the Tax Levy Resolution, and to authorize the Chairman to sign all documents.” Vice-Chair Hope Harmon seconded the motion, and Commissioners Cowan, Harmon, Bennie Calloway and Chairman Steve Taylor voted in favor (4-0).

The action followed a public hearing on the proposed millage rate during the special called meeting held at 6:00 p.m. in the Ben Hill County Courthouse Annex. There were no public comments during the hearing.

Chairman Steve Taylor opened the meeting and gave the invocation. County Clerk Donna R. Prather recorded attendance: Chairman Steve Taylor; Vice-Chair Hope Harmon; Commissioners Daniel Cowan and Bennie Calloway; County Manager Michael Dinnerman; and Clerk Donna R. Prather. Commissioner John Mooney was noted as absent.

The approved motion accepted the School Board’s stated millage figure and set the countywide millage at 15.840% for both incorporated and unincorporated areas. The commission also authorized the chairman to sign all documents related to the Tax Levy Resolution. With those actions completed, the meeting was adjourned.
