County manager outlines SPLOST choice, possible trash privatization and proposed computer lease

County Manager Michael Dinnerman provided the Ben Hill County Commissioners an update on 2023 SPLOST matters and several operational proposals at the June 2, 2022 workshop in the Courthouse Annex.
Dinnerman told the commissioners they must decide by November whether to keep the SPLOST split at 45/55. He said he is working on Joint Services planning connected to that revenue allocation and presented a proposed lease for computers and software that would be billed and paid through SPLOST; he said the lease would include purchase of the computers and warranty and that Scott Spivey is available to discuss the purchase with the commissioners.
The town-hall style workshop did not record a formal vote. The update frames several near-term decisions for the board: the SPLOST split, whether to proceed with the proposed computer lease under SPLOST, and whether to move forward with any privatization proposals.
Dinnerman also said the commissioners will revisit the question of privatizing trash collection; he noted that even if collection is privatized the county would have to provide a truck. No motion or formal action was recorded at the June 2 meeting on privatization or the computer lease.
The commissioners did not take final action at the workshop. Dinnerman indicated Scott Spivey would be available to meet with commissioners to discuss the computer lease in more detail, and the board was told it must make the SPLOST split decision by November.
