Ben Hill County commissioners reappoint officials, approve banks and legal organ

Ben Hill County commissioners unanimously approved a slate of routine organizational actions during their Jan. 4, 2022, regular meeting at the county courthouse annex.
Chairman Steve Taylor presided as the board approved motions to rehire County Manager Michael Dinnerman and County Clerk Donna R. Prather. Commissioner Bennie Calloway moved to rehire each official; Vice-Chair Hope Harmon seconded and the board voted in favor for both motions.
The board also reapproved the county attorney arrangement with Hall, Smith & Booth (managing partner Tony Rowell, working with Nick Kinsley) and retained Tony Eckler CPA as the auditing firm. Commissioners approved a set of county depository banks — Wells Fargo, Planters First, Colony Bank, Community Bank — and the Local Investment Pool as county financial institutions. The board named the Herald Leader as the county legal organ for public notices.
Commissioner John Mooney nominated Commissioner Hope Harmon for Vice-Chair and moved to close nominations; that procedural motion also passed unanimously.
The actions taken are standard annual housekeeping items that maintain the county’s continuity of operations, financial custody arrangements and legal notification processes. There was no extended debate recorded on these items; each motion was seconded and recorded as passing with all five commissioners voting in favor.
The board moved on to other agenda items and later adjourned after a brief executive session.
