Ben Hill County commissioners approve budget amendment, loan and multiple appointments

In a meeting at the Ben Hill County Courthouse Annex, Vice-Chair Hope Harmon moved to ratify an Alcohol Beverage Permit waiver letter for the Fitzgerald–Ben Hill County Chamber Foundation and the board approved the 2021-02 budget amendment resolution. Commissioner John Mooney moved to adopt the revised Ben Hill Transit Title VI Plan; the motion passed with commissioners voting in favor.
The commission approved an RLF loan to Greg Lewis dba G L Transport in the amount of $23,000 at 3.75% interest with a 48‑month term. Vice‑Chair Harmon moved the loan approval; Commissioner Daniel Cowan seconded, and the motion passed. The board also ratified a qualifying fees resolution and approved a letter to the Georgia Department of Transportation requesting inflation adjustments for the Evergreen Resurfacing TIA Project.
Separately, the board handled multiple appointments and reappointments. Commissioner Daniel Cowan moved to reappoint Wesley Mitchell to the Board of Assessors; the motion received recorded votes in favor by Cowan, Vice‑Chair Hope Harmon, Commissioner Bennie Calloway and Chairman Steve Taylor. Commissioner John Mooney moved and the board approved appointments and reappointments to the Ben Hill County Forestry Board and reappointments to the Department of Family & Children Services board.
On employee benefits, the commission adopted a 401(a) Plan Adoption Agreement resolution effective Jan. 1, 2022, and approved a 401(a) defined contribution plan for Ben Hill County employees. The motions were moved and seconded during the meeting and approved by the commissioners.
