Code Enforcement Director Jason Whiddon presented two first readings on May 6 for rezoning requests; neither was finalized.
Whiddon said the Planning Commission recommended approval of Steve Foskey’s request to rezone 1.95 acres at 2607 Willacoochee Highway from R2 (residential) to C (commercial) to match surrounding property. Because this was a first reading, no final action was taken.
Whiddon also introduced a first reading for Warren Smith’s request to rezone 1.81 acres at 1677 Quincey Batten Loop from R2 to AG (agriculture) to permit one mobile home for personal use; Planning Commission and staff recommended approval. The board did not vote on either rezoning at this meeting.
During public comment, resident Glenn Hodges addressed the board about the condition of Matt’s Way; County Administrator Wesley Vickers told the board construction should begin next year. The board also recognized Vernon and Angie Talkington for 26 years of service at the Hope Center and presented them with a plaque.
Because both items were first readings, the board will follow its standard timeline for a second reading or final consideration in a future meeting.
