Coffee County commissioners approve renovation change order, emergency pipe repairs and road equipment purchases

Chairman Johnny Wayne Jowers presided. County Administrator Wesley Vickers described Change Order Proposal #0001 for the Coffee County Health Department renovations, listing three items: downspouts, gutters and splash blocks ($18,200); cleaning and recoating EIFS fascia ($5,800); and removal of lobby water fountains, capping lines and wall repair ($1,800). "The total change order is $25,800," Vickers said. Commissioner Ted O’Steen moved to approve the change order; Commissioner AJ Dovers seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Vickers also reported emergency pipe-replacement work under Notice of Award SWE#01-1525. Statewide Engineering solicited five contractors for the emergency Mallard Pointe and Old Bell Telephone Road repairs; only Thrift Brothers LLC responded. The board approved awards of $41,789.20 for Mallard Pointe Drive and $31,487.40 for Old Bell Telephone Road, a combined total of $73,276.60. Commissioner Jimmy Kitchens moved to approve the notice of award; Commissioner AJ Dovers seconded.
On procurement for the Road Department, bids were opened for rotary mowers, dump trucks and low boy tractors. Bids included a John Deere rotary mower (via Lasseter) for $29,500 and low bids from South Georgia Western Star for a dump truck ($176,826) and a low boy tractor ($147,868). Vickers and Road Department representatives recommended the John Deere mower and the South Georgia Western Star vehicles. Commissioner Ted O’Steen moved to approve the purchases as recommended; Commissioner AJ Dovers seconded and the board voted unanimously.
Other routine items approved without dissent included the FY2025 renewal license for West Green Liquor and the surplus sale of a 1987 GMC fire truck (VIN 1663) on GovDeals. The meeting adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
