Pierce County to contribute $16,962.91 from refund to fund investigator shared with DA's office

Joshua Larkey, Georgia Circuit Public Defender, asked commissioners to reduce the county's refund payout so the county could cover the local share of the investigator position. Larkey said the requested $16,962.91 payment would leave $9,491.76 of the refund to be returned to the county treasury. Larkey told the commission the county's one-time payment would cover the county's portion of a full-time investigator for three years, and that the investigator position would begin July 1, 2025.
Commissioner David Lowman moved to approve the request; Commissioner Randy Dixon seconded and the motion carried. The meeting minutes do not include a roll-call tally. The minutes do not specify whether the county will require a formal contract or memorandum of understanding with the District Attorney's office to document the funding arrangement.
