Pierce County commissioners on Sept. 2 awarded three construction contracts covering neighborhood street and drainage work, a culvert replacement and a local road extension.
The board approved a Community Development Block Grant contract for street and drainage improvements on Chapel Circle, Chapel Drive, Tornado Road and Murray Hill Road, accepting the lowest bid from The Scruggs Company LLC for $1,081,866.99. Commissioner David Lowman moved to accept the bid; Commissioner Randy Dixon seconded and "the motion carried," the minutes state.
For the Whitney Lakes culvert project, commissioners accepted K‑Dug's low bid of $445,464.50. Commissioner Troy Mattox made the motion and Commissioner David Lowman seconded; the motion carried.
The board also approved a bid for Timber Lane Extension using 2024 LRA/LMIG funds, accepting the lowest bid from Underground Excavating for $351,720.00 after a motion from Commissioner Randy Dixon and a second from Commissioner Troy Mattox.
All three motions passed during the Sept. 2 meeting. The minutes record the bidders and amounts for each project but do not show a roll-call vote; the motions are recorded as carried.
The contracts cover work on multiple local roads and stormwater infrastructure funded through a mix of local and grant programs; the CDBG award specifically uses federal block grant funds allocated for street and drainage improvements. The county did not provide additional timeline or start-date details in the minutes.
