Fayette County accepts $4.16M FEMA/GEMA grant to replace Crosstown Water Treatment Plant generators

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 13 to accept a FEMA/GEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant totaling $4,156,907.26 to replace two emergency generators at the Crosstown Water Treatment Plant.
Water System Director Vanessa Tigert described the request as acceptance of the Hazard Mitigation Grant to replace the facility’s emergency generators. Chairman Lee Hearn summarized the cost-share breakdown: "FEMA share was $3,741,216.53, the State share was $166,276.29; the Local Share was $249,414.44 totaling a Project Cost of $4,156,907.26." Tigert noted the county’s approved Hazard Mitigation Plan reduced the normal local match from the standard rate.
The Board thanked staff, including Brian Davis of Fire and Emergency Services, for work on the grant application and plan. Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons moved to accept the grant; Commissioner Charles W. Oddo seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
Next steps: staff will proceed with grant administration and project procurement in accordance with FEMA/GEMA requirements and return updates to the Board as work progresses.
