Resident urges additional Tyrone elections office after precinct closure
Summary
A Fayetteville resident told commissioners the Tyrone precinct experienced HVAC and roof problems that required relocation of voting; she asked the board to add an additional elections and voter registration office in Tyrone and asked about the new water meter monitoring fee.
During public comment on June 26, resident Jamie Harmen asked the Board to consider an additional Elections and Voter Registration office in Tyrone after a recent polling location experienced HVAC failure and a roof collapse that required voters to be moved— with Secretary of State approval—to the library. Harmen also asked about the monitoring fee associated with new water meters in Fayette County.
County Administrator Steve Rapson later responded during the Administrator’s Report that there is currently one Elections and Voter Registration office in Fayetteville, that the Tyrone precinct (old City Hall) experienced HVAC and roofing issues that prompted relocation and renovation, and that the Elections Director arranged temporary accommodations with the Secretary of State’s approval.
