Fayette County grants 6.25% merit increase to county administrator; vote 4-1

Following a closed executive session that included personnel items and litigation, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 on June 26 to grant County Administrator Steve Rapson a 6.25% merit-based pay increase for the year.
Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons moved for the increase and Chairman Lee Hearn seconded. Commissioner Charles D. Rousseau said he had reservations about granting a merit increase outside the contract negotiation period. County Attorney Dennis A. Davenport clarified that the increase is effective for the current year only and future contract years would be decided later based on board direction. The motion passed with Rousseau in opposition; the other four commissioners voted in favor.
The board also approved returning to official session, signing the executive session affidavit and approving the June 12, 2025 executive session minutes.
