The Fayette County Board of Commissioners on June 26 ratified two operations contracts and discussed the county water system’s customer-facing program changes.
The board approved Contract #1447-S (Renewal 4) with Carbyne, Inc. for $285,500 to maintain and support the 911 phone system for the period Jan. 29, 2025–Jan. 28, 2026. County staff said the contract is currently on a calendar-year cycle and will be adjusted to the fiscal-year schedule in a future action; the board ratified the renewal 5-0.
Separately, Water System Director Vanessa Tigert presented Contract #2550-B for water treatment chemicals with three vendors for a combined not-to-exceed amount of $579,681.74; the board approved the contract 5-0. During discussion, County Administrator Steve Rapson and Commissioner Eric K. Maxwell explained the county’s AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) customer program changes: leak-detection fees will be reduced from $3 to $1 and the remaining $2 will be reclassified as a technology fee to cover AMI monitoring and support costs. Maxwell encouraged broader public outreach about the new meters and the customer-facing app.
Both contract approvals were made on motions by Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons and seconded by Commissioner Charles W. Oddo; each motion passed 5-0.
