Fayette County moves forward on Justice Center buildout, water projects and other capital contracts

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — Fayette County commissioners on Aug. 28 approved multiple capital and infrastructure actions, including a $12,380,341.40 construction award for the Justice Center buildout and a $1,620,000 contract to construct a booster pump station for a new elevated tank at Trilith Studios.
Project Manager David Jaeger told the board that Eastern Builders Inc. was the low bidder on Contract #2584‑B and recommended awarding the work to them; commissioners approved the award 4‑0. Jaeger said the overall Justice Center project budget was approximately $14.5 million, which includes furniture and design fees.
In water system business, Water System Director Vanessa Tigert presented Change Order No.1 to ARCADIS (Task Order 25‑04) for an additional $114,058 to finalize chlorine disinfection and chemical upgrades at the Crosstown and South Fayette Water Treatment Plants, bringing the task order total to a not‑to‑exceed $313,985. Tigert also asked the board to award Contract No. 2571‑B to Sol Construction, LLC for $1,620,000 to construct a booster pump station for the newly constructed metal elevated storage tank at the Trilith Studios property; that motion passed 3‑0.
The board voted to table Contract No. 2535‑P, a request to purchase and install two fixed emergency generators for the Crosstown Water Treatment Plant from Georgia Power for a not‑to‑exceed $4,228,090.00, and moved the item to the Sept. 11 agenda for further review.
Tigert also asked the board to approve a revised agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation (PI 0013726) for $2,041,498.22 to provide construction engineering and contract supervision for water distribution line relocations on State Routes 74 and 54 in Peachtree City; the board approved the agreement 3‑0.
Next steps include contract execution, scheduling for construction, and returning the tabled generator procurement for further board consideration.
