Bacon County commissioners approve minutes, form H.B. 92 study committee, award roof bid and close Mt. Pleasant Road

The Bacon County Board of Commissioners cleared several routine and administrative matters during its April 15 meeting, approving minutes, forming a study committee on H.B. 92, awarding a roof contract and authorizing a road closure following a public hearing.
Commissioner Lee Hagans moved to approve the March 18, 2025 minutes; Commissioner Lonann Sweat seconded and the motion carried. On H.B. 92, the board approved creating a five-member study committee to review the floating homestead exemption; the committee will include two city representatives, two county representatives and the Chief Appraiser. Commissioner Corey Tyre moved to form the committee; Commissioner Lonann Sweat seconded and the motion carried.
For the Recreation Department pitching machine building roof, two bids were presented: Josh Landis at $8,320 and Steve Johns at $6,600. Commissioner Rusty Sears moved to accept the $6,600 bid from Steve Johns; Commissioner Sammy Boatright seconded and the motion carried. The board also authorized closing Mt. Pleasant Road after a public hearing on April 14 with no opposition; Commissioner Corey Tyre moved to close the road and Commissioner Sammy Boatright seconded.
The board noted that the Day of the Child event will be observed April 26 and that the city and county will split the cost. With no further business, Commissioner Sammy Boatright moved to adjourn; Commissioner Corey Tyre seconded and the meeting was adjourned. County Clerk Mary Lee Sweat signed the minutes.
