Bacon County commissioners enforce solar-farm bonding rule, deny cameras for volunteer stations and approve Welcome Center rental

The most contested item involved a bond requirement tied to the Bacon County Solar Farm Ordinance. Silicone Ranch asked whether it could guarantee the bond internally. Commissioners said the ordinance requires a bond from a third-party bonding company and that bonds are evaluated every five years, and they denied Silicone Ranch's request. Commissioner Corey Tyre moved to deny the request; Commissioner Lonann Sweat seconded and the motion carried.
On a public-safety request, the Fire Chief asked the board to install cameras at each volunteer station, citing a quoted equipment cost of $6,477.76 and an internet service cost of $279.60 per month. Commissioners declined to fund the project this year and recommended that the expense be included in next year's budget. Commissioner Lee Hagans moved to deny the request this year; Commissioner Sammy Boatright seconded and the motion carried.
The board approved a separate administrative request from the Chamber of Commerce to rent a room at the Welcome Center for $100 per month, payable quarterly; Commissioner Corey Tyre made the motion to approve and Commissioner Lonann Sweat seconded. With no further business, Commissioner Tyre moved to adjourn; Commissioner Boatright seconded and the meeting was adjourned.
