The Autauga County Commission, chaired by Commissioner Jay Thompson, met July 15, 2025, and unanimously approved a slate of routine items including budget transfers, personnel actions, service agreements and subdivision plats.
Commissioner John L. Thrailkill moved to approve the minutes of the July 1, 2025 regular meeting; Commissioner Bill Tatum seconded and the motion carried by unanimous vote. The commission likewise approved invoices received through July 15, 2025 and authorized the chairman and treasurer/administrator to issue warrants for payment.
The commission adopted the consent docket, which included multiple training and travel approvals for county departments (Rural Transportation, Senior Services, Engineering and the Sheriff’s Office). It approved transfers to the gasoline budget totaling $6,534.80 charged to the general fund (detailed line items were provided) and a $192.70 transfer from the Reappraisal Fund. Separate transfers to cover June fuel use in sheriff-related accounts were approved, and the commission authorized surplus and destruction of specified sheriff security wands and battery chargers with serial numbers noted in the minutes.
On cultural funding, the commission approved a $5,000 appropriation to the Pratt Museum.
Personnel actions approved included the termination of Ebony McQueen (full-time correction officer, effective July 11, 2025) and the acceptance of the resignation of John Shay McGuire (full-time correction officer, effective July 11, 2025), with authorization to hire replacements. The board accepted the resignation of Melissa Steward (License Supervisor, effective July 15, 2025), promoted Amberly Gray to License Supervisor (grade 6, step 1) effective July 16, 2025, and approved hiring Shirecka Taylor as License Clerk (grade 4, step 1) effective July 28, 2025 to replace Charlotte Underwood.
The commission approved a $6,700 budget adjustment in the Revenue Department, moving funds from postage to equipment/furniture, and several Rural Transportation budget re-allocations among capital, contract services, electricity and workers' compensation line items.
On transit funding, the body approved an agreement between Autauga County and the City of Montgomery for Fiscal Year 2026 Urbanized Area Formula Funds (Section 5307) under the Federal Transit Administration, and it certified compliance regarding lobbying for Rural Transportation.
Pay actions included one-year, one-step increases for three drivers—Margie Bolt (full time), Latonya Taylor (part time) and Dietrich Buerk (part time)—for satisfactory service.
Contract and planning approvals included a multi-year agreement with Haynes Ambulance Service effective Aug. 1, 2025 through July 31, 2028, approval of Alpine Place Plat No. 4 (Alpine Drive, District 4) and Hunt-Deramus Plat No. 1 (Riverbend Road, District 2). The commission also approved the sheriff’s request to enter a Memorandum of Understanding with Trinity Corrections Care to provide insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
All motions recorded in the minutes carried by unanimous vote of the commission. Chairman Jay Thompson moved to adjourn at 5:17 p.m.; the commission agreed and reconvened is scheduled for Aug. 5, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
